Daughters Of India Dress Review

I first discovered Daughters of India on Instagram. A few people I follow posted their dresses and I started seeing ads every time I opened the app. It worked, because I ordered a few dresses to see what the hype was all about. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by the fast shipping (it took about a week) and the quality. Daughters of India is an ethical fashion brand based in Australia. The brand was founded with a focus on slow fashion, ethical practices, and support for local artisans and makers in India.

One of the things I found particularly appealing about the brand is that they don’t do collections and they also don’t offer wholesale. Instead, they release one product at a time when it is complete. This ensures that the artisans are not overworked with unrealistic hours or pushed to complete a huge quantity of labour all at once. In addition, Daughters of India is focused on creating beautiful dresses following ethical and sustainable practices. In today’s post, I’m sharing a review of my favorite Daughters Of India dresses, and some additional styles I like.

Daughters Of India Dress Review

Kyra Mini Dress

The Kyra Mini Dress (shown above in Blue Iris) is 100% cotton gauze and made in India. The fabric is lightweight, breezy and also flowy (perfect for summer). The block printing is done by hand and the dress comes in a variety of colors. However, I did not read the washing instructions and mistakenly washed and dried the dress. It did slightly shrink so I recommend doing a gentle wash cycle with a tumble no heat or air dry. I find the dresses fit true to size or slightly big. This style is also pregnancy and breastfeeding friendly! I wear it with biker shorts underneath because the length is shorter after drying. But this color is not see through. Overall this is probably my favorite style and I wear it very often. I wouldn’t change a thing about it!

Kyra Midi Dress

I got the Kyra Midi Dress in several colors and really like this style. Similar to the Kyra Mini it has romantic billowy sleeves and block printed cotton done by hand. I have this style in Jade (some say this color is a little see through), ocean blue (shown below), and caramel. You really can’t go wrong, every color is absolutely beautiful. Dress this one up or down. I like to wear it with sandals or a low block heel. It would be really pretty in the fall layered under a sweater. This is a great length and the style is so wearable. It feels like wearing a comfy nightgown but honestly I get compliments every time I wear this dress!

Lopa Maxi Dress

The Lopa maxi dress is a floral hand block printed design by artisans in India. It’s 100% cotton and lined with a tired silhouette and scoop neckline. The full maxi dress is relaxed and comfortable, a great maternity style that you can wear loose and flowy or belt at the waist. A gorgeous dress for the beach, running errands or a leisurely brunch.

Binita Mini Dress

The Binita Midi Dress is the next one on my wish list. It’s 100% cotton and lined. It’s a relaxed wrap style dress with balloon sleeves and a deep V neckline. The dress is hand block printed by the hands of artisans in India. It’s available in sizes xs-xl. My favorite color is the violet. It would be so chic with leather sandals.

I think they fit pretty true to size. I got xs across the board and they’re still roomy, so maybe slightly big but make sure you don’t wash and dry in the dryer like I did! They do shrink with a heat dry.
