We got our first piece of Sixpenny furniture almost two years ago. I was looking for a sofa that would feel big and comfy but wouldn’t take up a ton of space in our small living space in Rhode Island. I had seen the Neva sofa a few times in my search and I loved the look and the fabric options. It ended up being the perfect piece of furniture for the space and over the last two years we’ve purchased more Sixpenny furniture. Sixpenny furniture offers sofas, sectionals, chairs, daybeds, ottomans and tables. You can also purchase additional slipcovers for the furniture which was a big selling point for me. The furniture is made to order, there are some options that are ready to ship, so depending on your needs and preferences you can get pieces in as little as 2-3 weeks. Ordering Furniture

One of my favorite things about Sixpenny is they offer up to 12 free fabric swatches. If you’re trying to decide on which fabric and color, I highly recommend ordering some swatches first to see what you like. They shipped quickly and for free! I have not seen many furniture companies offer this option.

Sixpenny offers Feather Down and Poly Fill options. Here’s more information about the differences between the two. The feather down is ethically sourced.

When ordering furniture you can purchase certain pieces in stock and they ship in as little as 2-3 weeks. If you’re on a time crunch it’s a great option. For custom orders it’s usually more like 14-16 weeks and I have found this estimate to be generally accurate in my own experience ordering furniture.

Washing Slipcovers

This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions about my Sixpenny furniture. While Sixpenny recommends dry cleaning as the best option for their all natural fabrics, I have had success with washing my slipcovers in various fabrics. Machine washing on a delicate cycle with cold water and then letting the slipcover air dry until it’s just slightly damp, then doing 5-10 minutes in the dryer on the lowest heat setting has worked well. Shipping

Sixpenny offers free delivery on their furniture which is a really nice perk. Their free delivery means the furniture is delivered in a box to your door, so no unpacking or delivering inside. White glove delivery is $100 and I highly recommend this option. If you don’t want to deal with disposing of huge boxes and getting your furniture inside white glove is the way to go.

Returns

Sixpenny does allow returns within 30 days for items in original condition. You must keep the original packaging or there will be a 10% restocking fee for items returned without it. Custom orders are final sale.

Our Sixpenny Furniture

Neva Sofa (Corn Silk, 72 inch)

The Neva Sofa was our first piece of furniture from Sixpenny. It’s also one of the first styles they offered as a company. We have it in the 72 inch size, feather down, washed cotton linen in corn silk. The washed cotton linen is their lightest fabric and in all honesty if I had to do it all over again, with pets, I probably would have chosen a different fabric. I LOVE the fabric and it does wash well, but with pets/toddlers there’s a lot of wear and tear on our furniture so we need durability. Compared to other fabrics I’ve purchased the washed cotton linen is the most delicate and with cat claws, dog nails there are better fabric options (cotton canvas or lightweight linen).

In terms of comfort and style I love the Neva sofa. It’s deep and comfortable enough for tall people, Craig is 6’4″ but small enough for tiny spaces in the 72 inch. I would say that size can comfortably fit 3 people max.

Gabriel Daybed (Corn Silk)

I got the Gabriel daybed in down fill to go in our living room with the Neva sofa and I love how they look together. Because of the layout of our living room a daybed made the most sense and it works really well in the space. I chose the same fabric because I wanted it to match the sofa, but if I had to do it all over again I’d go with with a lightweight linen or cotton canvas and I will probably order new slipcovers at some point.

Gabriel Chairs (Black Pepper)

I got the Gabriel Chairs in Black Pepper (down fill) for our Vermont living room and I absolutely love them. They are so comfortable, our guests remark on that fact often, and they look so nice. I really like the lightweight linen fabric and black pepper color. It’s a blue-ish gray that almost looks like denim in some lighting. The fabric is sturdy, soft and has a slight stretch to it. As you can see from the photos the natural fabrics have a lived in look and feel, which I love. If you don’t like wrinkles in your furniture fabric then it’s probably not the right fit for you as cotton and linen naturally will have a more wrinkled look to them.

Elias Sofa (Oat Flour)

The Elias sofa was the first piece of furniture I purchased for our house in Vermont. I picked the fabric and color, lightweight linen in oat flour, mainly because at the time it was in stock and I needed something quickly. It shipped fast and was delivered in less than 3 weeks. Overall the sofa is very comfortable and I’ve washed the slipcover several times with no issues. The only thing I don’t love are the extra with the Elias sofa (not pictured here). They just don’t seem necessary? They appear to be more for looks than practicality and we ended up putting them in a closet in our basement because they weren’t comfortable on the sofa and ended up being a nuisance. Otherwise it’s really comfortable and big enough for all of us plus pets.
