What to do in Providence for the Holidays

Hi everyone, Jess L. here to share some of my favorite Providence holiday must-do’s–
There’s no place quite like home for the holidays. As a native Rhode Islander, calling Providence ‘home’ my entire life means that this time of year, I find it particularly exciting to go back and enjoy the holiday cheer. Whether you’re local, looking to visit for a weekend, or traveling from far away, Providence offers so many festive events and shopping options to enjoy this time of year. Here are some of my favorite things to do in Providence during the holidays.

Plan a shopping stroll

One of the best things about exploring Providence is finding the charming local boutiques and shops that are scattered throughout the city. A few of my favorites include:

Nava, lose track of time in this curated collection of clothing, home decor, gifts and vintage. There’s so much to browse in this inviting shop, so it’s always fun to pop in and see what I can find.

Modern Love, head into this shop on Westminster Street for the perfect gifts. From jewelry to cocktail kits, candles and cookbooks you are bound to find something for the people on your list, and something for yourself, too.

The Arcade Mall, known as America’s oldest mall, this historic building is now home to small businesses on its first floor and micro lofts above. I always enjoy taking a walk by, especially during the holidays.

Yoleni’s, a new addition to Providence, is a Mediterranean bistro/market that can be compared to a local, Greek version of the ever-popular Eataly. Browse the selection of high-end olive oils, dried fruits and sauces for stocking stuffers and be sure to sit for a meze platter before you leave.

Pastiche, pop into this cozy European-style bakery for a latte and treat mid-day. Located in Providence’s Federal Hill (essentially Little Italy), this spot is a must-do if you’re craving something sweet.

Events and Workshops

A Christmas Carol, one of the biggest holiday traditions in Providence is surely A Christmas Carol performed at Trinity Rep Theatre. Performed every year throughout November and December, it’s the perfect family event to celebrate the season.

Providence Holiday Flea Markets, happening December 15 and 16, stroll through artisans, makers and vintage vendors while sipping on something warm and enjoying offerings from food trucks, too.

The Nutcracker at Providence Performing Arts Center, Festival Ballet Providence is performing this timeless classic on December 21 and 22, super close to Christmas and perfect for a night out with family and friends. If you haven’t visited the Performing Arts Center before, the historic decor and architecture alone is enough to book show there.

Verde Garden Wreath Workshops, This shop is offering so many great workshops for the holidays throughout the month. Browse their events here. Located in Newport, RI.

Have you been to Providence for the holidays? Let me know if there’s any other fun things to check out this time of year.
