How to Style Duck Boots

Jess Ann Kirby wears speedy boots and a LL Bean fisherman sweater to weather New England in the fall

Pretty excited about today’s post because I’ve been wearing these Sperry duck boots non-stop since I got them a couple of years ago. I brought them to New Hampshire for our quick North Conway trip and wore them (right out of the box) on a two hour hike through the woods. They were SO comfortable. And ideal for walking through wet grass, muddy trails and a rocky beach. They’re still some of my most-worn pair of boots, especially during these New England winters. Possibly the best thing about these duck boots though, is they’re lined. So my feet, which are always cold, stayed toasty and warm.

How to Style Sperry Duck Boots

Pair with Skinny Jeans

I usually wear my duck boots with skinny jeans but you could definitely also do leggings if you were wearing them for more of a workout or hike than a leisurely stroll. I tend to like more fitted pants paired with chunkier boots, so skinny jeans are my go-to. You could also most likely find me in faux leather leggings these days, too.

Add Layers

When I wear jeans or leggings on the bottom, I’m usually looking to add some interest up top with layers. Throw on a chunky sweater, you know this one is my fave, layered over a turtleneck and add a lightweight jacket. Adding a turtleneck under my outfit is an easy way to add both warmth and an extra style element to my look. This striped one is perfect.

Style with Seasonal Accessories

For our little harbor cruise I wore a cashmere beanie because it was super chilly, cold weather showed up basically overnight. But adding a hat to any outfit, especially in the winter, always makes me feel like I put that extra effort into my outfit. A wool fedora is one of my favorites too.

What kind of socks do you wear with Duck Boots?

Honestly, I kind of think a boot sock is an essential with a duck boot, the combo just works. I gravitate towards pairs that are wool or cashmere. Mostly because I’m usually wearing these boots in cold, rain or just outdoors in general, so the functionality of a thick sock always adds warmth and comfort.

  4. So, I live in Florida but have been dying for a pair of duck boots—we get a lot of rain here, so they’re still totally practical, right?!

Yes very practical and great for rain. I just wouldn’t get the thinsulate lined if you’re in Florida because you don’t need the extra warmth!

Okay I’m officially in the catagory of liking “buy the post” a bit too much! Lol. I just ordered the Sam Edelman Silver Flats and the black studded Mules. Also , the brand new JCrew Signet Tote in Cognac . That was a gorgeous photo tour of lovely Charleston and the outfits were so well styled. Thank goodness I don’t live in New England just for this week so I dont need the cute Duck Boots. ?

Haha! Good choices though Lynn. Those are two of my favorite shoes right now. I got the silver flats for my Mom too because they’re so comfortable. Thank goodness you don’t live in New England because it is FREEZING right now. Have a great weekend. 🙂

Thank you! Honestly I love them both, the Bean boots I have aren’t lined so when it’s REALLY cold they’re not as warm, these Sperrys are lined.

I LOVE your style! I just purchased my first pair of sperry saltwater duck boots and am trying to figure out a pair of socks to go with them. I have been eyeing UGG sienna rain boot socks but the colors seem very limited. What kind of socks (and also color) are you wearing in your photos? Thanks!!
