2020 Top 10s and Reader Favorites

Happy first Monday of 2021. It will now take me approximately 6 months to get used to writing 2021 instead of 2020. I hope all of you had a nice break over the holidays. For the first time in years I didn’t work between Christmas and New Years, at all. I didn’t write down goals, didn’t check my email, took long breaks from social media and just generally checked out, and it was glorious. Need to do more of that this year.

I always love rounding up the top 10s. Sometimes I look back and am surprised by what’s been clicked the most, this year I looked back and thought, I wrote that in 2020? Here are the top 10s of 2020, the most read blog posts, the most shopped products (lots of skincare not surprisingly) and reader favorites. Thank you for being a part of this community, I am very much looking forward to creating more space for connection and honest conversations in 2021.

Reader Favorites

Blundstone Boots – Not just for New Englanders, I’ve also heard from readers everywhere that the Blundstone boots are a go-to for everything from hikes to everyday errands. I went a full size up and then used the insert they provided for the right fit.

Equilibria CBD – This has consistently been a reader favorite, especially the relief cream. My code jessannkirby is good for 15% off for new subscribers.

Manuka Honey Cleansing Balm – One of my holy grail skincare products and looks like the same can be said for many of you. It’s especially great for dry winter skin.

Smartwool Socks – Currently wearing them as I type this and have basically been in a pair of Smartwool socks everyday since we moved to Vermont.

Bissell IconPet Vacuum – Vacuuming has never been more fun.

Patagonia Retro Pile Fleece Pullover – I got this when I was pregnant and sized way up to a large but I still love the oversized fit.

Skida Neckwarmer – No surprise this was a favorite, you sold out the Backcountry website, twice!

AGolde Dee Shorts – Definitely a summer favorite of mine too!

White + Warren Cashmere Beanie – My code Jess20 for 20% off still works.

Hi- I’ve noticed you don’t use your fireplace but instead have an insert that’s not really inserted all the way? What are you using and who makes it? And is it easy to install? I have a wood burning fireplace that I love but it’s so darn messy after we make a fire and I’m paranoid about any potential fire hazards. We have researched converting to gas but it’s complicated and requires permits and hiring a plumber. Any alternative suggestions /ideas are welcome :). Thanks-

Hi Jackie, if you are referring to the stove in our house in Vermont it is propane. I can’t speak to installation because it was here when we bought the house. The insert in our other house is a pellet stove which was also there when we bought the house.

I had a wood burning stove built on skate in our spare den room. We loved it and used it all the time . The fireplace had a heat skater that came out of vents and oil heat that was there before. I can still feel sitting in that cozy room on Holidays with my kids and animals . It was a very long time ago but remains in images in my heart. One of my children is now gone and he was joined by his Dad, January 1st. The memories in that house we always dreamed of and did over together are some of my very best memories in my life.

I keep making typos so I did this whole post over . We had a Vermont Wood Burning stove built on a Gray Slate slab with a wood frame in our Den room and we loved it . We used it every night or on cold snowy days. The fireplace had a Heatalator (not sure how to spell it ) Craig would know what it was. Vents were above the mantle and heat came into the living room. It was very warm. Heat rises and warmed the upper kids bedrooms and then added was oil heat. I remember the Oil tanker coming up the road to load up the tank all of those years ago spent with my kids on that farm that we completely did over . They were some of the best memories of my life and when I read your stories some things you did over brings me right back there and for a sweet moment and makes my whole day❤️
