My ABLE Collection Launches Today!

Jess Ann Kirby x ABLE Collection

The Jess Ann Kirby X ABLE collection launches today. To say I am excited, honored, and proud to collaborate with ABLE on this collection would be an understatement. This winter will mark 8(!) years of blogging and for most of that time, I’ve visualized creating something like this. Opportunities have come along, but nothing that felt right, until I discovered ABLE. The opportunity to create a collection of wearable, classic pieces with a brand so deeply aligned with my own personal values is a dream come true.

ABLE is a women-run brand (96% female staff) who is moving fashion forward by empowering women, both locally and globally, through creating jobs with dignity and paying living wages through their supply chains. Ethical fashion is at the core of their brand mission and vision, and sustainability is woven into every component of the design process and supply chain. I discovered ABLE a few years ago when they were becoming the 1st brand to publish their lowest wages. Only 2% of people making clothing around the world earn a living wage- 75% of them are women. Publishing the lowest wages protects the most vulnerable workers in the fashion industry, the people making the clothes we wear everyday.

I’m so happy to have the opportunity to help women invest in a lasting wardrobe they love and feel good in. When you purchase items from this collection with ABLE, you are also investing in the women who made them. My goal is to strive for progress, and through this collaboration with ABLE we are aligned on that mission. The Jess Ann Kirby x ABLE collection exclusives (noted below) will be in 100% recyclable packaging, the first step in a larger initiative for ABLE, who will be moving all packaging materials to be fully 100% recyclable by early 2022. ABLE will also be adding more inclusive sizing with almost 70% of their spring collection going up to size 3X. We know there is much progress to be made, and I am thrilled to be a part of the journey with them.

I am incredibly passionate about empowering women to use their voice, feel confident, and live authentically. This collection was created with that in mind. Classic, wearable pieces embodying effortless style for women to love for many years to come. I hope this collection brings as much joy to all of you as I had creating it with the incredible ABLE team. And as always, thank you so much for all the love and support.

Jess Ann Kirby x ABLE Collection

I’ve laid out the entire collection below. It’s broken up into categories: sweaters and sweatshirts, pants and bottoms, shoes, tops, jackets, dresses, and jewelry and accessories. I hope this makes it easier if you’re looking for something specific in your wardrobe. There’s also an FAQ at the bottom of the post that has additional information about sustainability, manufacturing, sizing, and more. I’ve included some info about sizing for certain items where relevant.

For the entire collection (and any purchase on ABLE) you can use code JAK15 for 15% off your purchase (good through the end of the year or until items sell out). Also, make sure you sign up for ABLE rewards (it’s free!) for free shipping and returns.

Sweaters and Sweatshirts

Probably not surprisingly sweaters are my biggest category in this collection. As someone who lives in New England, I wear them a lot. Sweaters make up a big part of my wardrobe for a majority of the year so I wanted to include versatility in styles and fabrics for this collaboration. For the entire collection (and any purchase on ABLE) you can use code JAK15 for 15% off your purchase.

Rose Relaxed Sweater (EXCLUSIVE)

The Striped Rose Relaxed Sweater comes in 100% Organic Cotton (GOTS Certified). It’s a chunky stitch knit with mock neck and an oversized, slouchy fit. The drop shoulder and tunic length also makes it perfect to pair with leggings or jeans. In fact, it’s one of my absolute favorites from the collection, super soft and cozy. This sweater runs big. So I went a size down.

Elizabeth Cardigan

It’s so soft you’d think it’s cashmere. The Elizabeth cardigan is a midi length and can be worn as a cardigan or a dress. It’s made with a recycled poly/spandex blend making it incredibly comfortable and also a great sweater to layer all fall and winter. Fits true to size.

HARRIET SWEATER

Everything about this sweater is so good, especially the gorgeous green color. It also has a mock neck with ribbed sleeve detail. It’s lightweight but super warm and incredibly soft. A great sweater for the half-tuck. Made with recycled fabric. Fits true to size.

Cynthia Sweatshirt

This sweatshirt has been a crowd favorite, understandably so. It has a 90s feel with the half zip and ribbed collar but updated in a gorgeous neutral. In fact, I love this one with jeans or matching sweats. Fits true to size.

Maggie Chunky Cardigan

The Maggie Chunky Cardigan is an open front sweater with a wide rib collar and subtle balloon sleeve. A relaxed style that feels super chic. Made with a combination of recycled fabrics in cotton, poly and nylon it feels soft and luxurious without being itchy. Oversized style fits true to size.

Marlowe Sweater

The Marlowe is a structured, slightly boxy and cropped knit. It’s very lightweight and cozy. The sleeves also have a fixed cuff and the fabric is stretchy and soft. Fits true to size.

Pants & Bottoms

I love the combination of silhouettes and styles in this group. From sweatpants to boyfriend jeans and tailored wide leg trousers I think there is a great variety for every wardrobe and occasion. For the entire collection (and any purchase on ABLE) you can use code JAK15 for 15% off your purchase.

LOUISA SWEATPANTS

The Louisa Sweatpants are soft and comfy with a super cozy, tapered leg, draw string waist and rib trim at leg opening and waist band. Great on their own or with the matching sweatshirt and also perfect for running errands or the comfy bottom to your WFH outfit.

Clarissa High Rise

Sorry not sorry, skinny jeans aren’t “out” in my opinion. The Clarissa are a timeless washed black denim, mid/high rise with a raw hem. They have a little bit of stretch and soften with wear. These fit true to size. (Available to ship in October).

Whitney boyfriend

These buttery soft boyfriend jeans in non-stretch denim will feel like they’ve been in your wardrobe for years. A perfectly faded light wash, they also look great with sneakers or booties. Roll them up or do a little DIY and make them raw hem. I sized down in these.

Tops & Jackets

Cher Patch Pocket Shirt

Menswear inspired with a feminine feel, the Cher Patch Pocket Shirt is relaxed and oversized with patch pockets and a camp collar. Roll up the sleeves and wear it with the Aarti Wide Leg for an easy monochrome look that’s super chic. Made with a sustainable, buttery soft lyocell blend fabric. This fits true to size.

Joan Shacket

The perfect combo of a shirt and a jacket, it’s a shacket. I also love the vintage feel and corduroy material in this oversized outerwear that has autumn written all over it. It’s the perfect piece for layering. Fit is oversized and this one runs big, so I went one size down.

Mae Drapey Tee

The Mae Drapey Tee is an easy, relaxed wardrobe staple with a scoop neck and super soft fabric. A comfy white tee that is also great for everyday wear. This runs slightly big so I go a size down.

Lana Rib Henley (EXCLUSIVE)

The Lana Rib Henley is an updated feminine version of a henley in a more fitted silhouette with an open scoop neck, elbow length sleeve, and subtle button detail. It’s made with a soft micro-rib fabric in an antique white. Fits true to size.

SHRIYA CREW TEE (EXCLUSIVE)

Because my wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without a stripe tee. The Shriya Crew Tee is a classic crew neck tee in easy to wear neutrals that look great with everything.

The Jane Maxi Dress (Exclusive)

For my collection with ABLE I wanted a versatile dress that was easy to wear and ideal for fall weather. The Jane Maxi is a breezy cotton dress with a button detail in the front and full long sleeve with a ruffle detail at sleeve opening. The bodice and skirt are fully lined. Looks great paired with booties, sneakers and flats. You can also belt it at the waist for some shape. This dress runs big I went a size down.

Shoes

Wilma Chunky Boot

A gorgeous water resistant boot that’s versatile and stylish. The Wilma Chunky Boot is comfortable and classic with a lug sole and padded insole. These are great with jeans, leggings or a dress. These fit true to size.

Eliza Boot

Not to play favorites but I LOVE the the Eliza Ankle boot. These pointed toe pull on booties come in a stunning water resistant nubuck in a walkable 2 inch heel height. A versatile neutral color that looks great with denim, dresses and wide leg pants. They also have a padded insole and gore elastic at the ankle for easy and comfortable slip on. These fit true to size.

Nera Sneaker

A comfy sneaker with a touch of color, the Nera Sneaker has a slightly platform sole and looks great with dresses or denim. These run slightly small I recommend going a half size up.

Jewelry and Accessories

SELMA Ring

The Selma Ring is perfect for stacking or to wear on its own. Handmade in Nashville, it’s dainty and delicate with a 14mm gold fill. I wear this one everyday!

letter Necklace

I love my “M” Letter Necklace and wear it everyday. It’s a gold vermeil pendant with 18″ gold-filled chain and customizable with up to 6 letters. It’s a beautiful, incredible quality piece at an amazing price. Handmade in Nashville.

Mamuye Tote

A classic and consistent bestseller for ABLE, the Mamuye Tote is a gorgeous and timeless staple. An everyday tote with plenty of room, quality leather and handmade in Ethiopia and Mexico. The Mamuye Tote can also be personalized.

Emerson Scarf (EXCLUSIVE)

I love how effortlessly chic, the Emerson Scarf is as an accessory whether you wear it on your bag, in your hair or around your neck. Made in a beautiful light blue with embroidery detail it’s classic and versatile.

CAROLINA Belt

The Carolina Belt is gorgeous accented with an antique brass buckle and a neutral camel color that seamlessly works with any wardrobe. Pair it with trousers and a sweater for the perfect half-tuck or use it to belt a dress or even the Joan shacket!

FAQ

How is sustainability incorporated into this collection?

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, both ABLE and I know there is still much progress to be made, but I’m also proud of what we were able to accomplish for this collaboration and what ABLE has already done. Here is what you should know about this collection:

  • First and foremost, sustainability isn’t just in ABLE’s supply chain, it’s woven into ABLE’s design process. The goal of this collection (and ABLE as a brand) is to create timeless, quality pieces attainable in price point, because we both believe that buying less is truly more.
  • Shipping + Packaging
    • All ABLE packaging will be 100% recyclable by 2022 — the JAK exclusives (noted above) will all be in ABLE’s new glassine bags, which are 100% recyclable/biodegradable bags made of paper, acid free and FSC certified! The rest of ABLE inventory will be fully switched over to these bags by early 2022.
  • ABLE also invests in sustainability initiatives to minimize waste, including a partnership with Soles for Souls – Nashvillians can go to the Flagship store and donate their gently used ABLE items to help people in developing countries launch and sustain their own small businesses by selling the donated ABLE shoes and clothing. If you’re not in Nashville, you can go here to find a donation location.
  • You can find more specific sustainability information for jewelry, leather, denim, apparel and shoes here. All of ABLE’s jewelry is manufactured at their HQ in Nashville. Product pages also include specific fabric content for each piece.

This collection is so you, Jess—it’s beautiful! ABLE is a new to me brand, so I appreciate learning more about their ethos from your description above and from their website too. I was unable to find any mention of race in the company’s overview other than the brand origin’s connection to Ethiopia. Do you know how many women in leadership or ownership at the brand are women of color?

Congratulations on the collection! Can you clarify what your role was in creating this? Is this an edit? Did you design it? Would love to understand more!

Hi Holly thank you! It was a little bit of both. Because of the timing, many of the designs had been chosen, however there was time for me to customize a few pieces. So it was a combination of that and me picking certain pieces from a large group of options for what they were potentially going to offer this fall and we went from there!
