What to Wear for New Year’s Eve

Jess Ann Kirby styles elegant dresses for a black tie wedding in the winter

Truth be told, if it were any other year, I’d be asleep before midnight. I’m typically not one to celebrate NYE in any way other than ordering takeout, watching a movie and going to bed by 9pm. So, I’m actually pretty excited to make an exception and have a reason to stay up this year. My cousin is getting married and it’s black tie which means my idea of getting dressed (wearing jeans and putting on eyeshadow) isn’t going to cut it. It’s fun though, to get all dressed up every once in a while. I’m still deciding on what I’m going to wear. It’s between this dress (I’m wearing above) and this dress that hasn’t arrived yet, which I think is my favorite of the two. I haven’t quite decided on how I plan to wear my hair, Jennie Kay did three different styles on me you can see here, but in all honesty I might just wear it down and go with beachy waves which feels a bit more me. If going to a black tie event is not on your agenda I’ve rounded up some other cute options for New Year’s Eve. What do you guys have planned? Staying in or going out?

Outfit details: Marchesa Notte Jaclyn Dress (wearing size 0) // Missoma Gold Leaf Choker // Initial Pendant // Malachite Cuff // Hex Cuff // Aztec Cuff

If you’re going out and looking to wear something festive and dressy but not formal I love this long sleeve sequin shift dress and this velvet midi. This rainbow sequin dress is really fun and this sparkly dress looks really comfortable.

If you’re not in the mood for a dress I love a velvet top with coated skinny jeans or faux leather leggings. Or pair that with a silk cami and a chunky knit sweater, and add fun accessories like a sparkly clutch or booties.
And if none of the above is what you’re going for, and you’re planning on pizza and Netflix marathons you can’t go wrong with cozy pjs and slippers.

You look absolutely stunning in that top photo! Gorgeous! NYE isn’t a big deal in my house, so I usually just treat it like a regular day/night. I stay in, read a book, watch a movie, go to bed at my usual time (9:30 PM) and then just sleep right through midnight. Regardless, though, I hope you have a wonderful evening at your cousin’s wedding and all the best to you and your family in 2019 xo

LOVE this dress! Also loving that colorful sequined striped number. May need to grab that. I’m like the opposite though, I worked in the bar industry for so many years and this will be my first NYE with ZERO plans and I am SO stoked to go to bed early!!
