Getting away with the girls is good for your soul—and your sanity. Laughing till your stomach hurts, finishing each other’s sentences and indulging in a few too many margaritas are only a few of the advantages to taking a trip with your favorite women. Why not enjoy the fall weather (and foliage because it is CRAZY gorgeous here) and schedule a Newport girls weekend? Here’s a few of our favorite activities.
Where to stay. If Hotel Viking‘s prime location doesn’t have you sold, then the the incredibly comfortable beds, impeccable service, and luxurious bathtubs should do it. You’ll sleep soundly there after all of your big adventures. You can’t beat the rooftop deck and charming afternoon tea. *Don’t miss our special giveaway with the Hotel Viking, see how to enter on Instagram.
What to do. When you’re in Newport there’s just nothing like getting out on the water. A cruise around the harbor with Antique Yacht is one of the best ways to see town. Greg and Alana are the nicest and most fun couple you’ll meet, you just wanna be their bestie. They are great tour guides and always make a harbor cruise extra special.

Some of the wealthiest families in the country called Newport home for the summer. For all you Downton Abbey fans, Newport is mentioned a few times on the show as a place where the wealthy New Yorkers bought “beach cottages.” Those cottages are actually mansions, and you can tour them year-round. We love Rosecliff, Rough Point, The Breakers and The Elms.
One of Newport’s most well known attractions, the Cliff Walk, is mile after mile of rugged coastline. Wear comfortable sneakers and bring your camera (or at least your phone) you will definitely want to take pictures. Go at your own pace and take in stunning views of unspoiled rocky beaches and historic mansions.
Head to Middletown (only 5 minutes from Newport) to pick seasonal fresh produce at Sweet Berry Farm. Besides the best berry pie ever, they have pastries, salads, sandwiches and the most delicious ice cream.
Grab some drinks and a bite. Before heading out to dinner, sip on a premium cocktail on the lawn at Castle Hill. Majestic ocean front views and comfy Adirondack chairs will start any evening off right.
While there are many places on the island to get food, we have a few favorites. The Clarke Cooke House offers up American-style food with plenty of seafood options and you can’t beat the ambience or the people watching.
A prime, somewhat secret spot for brunch, Belle’s Cafe is located in the Newport Shipyard and has a laid-back, yet delicious breakfast and lunch menu. Sip your coffee with views of the Newport bridge and mega yachts.
For authentic Mexican fare, Perro Salado can’t be beat. The casual vibe, tasty margaritas (try the spicy jalapeño) and varied menu options will leave you satisfied. You have to order the sticky ribs!
Pencil in some pampering. What’s a girls weekend without a little grooming? Get a blowout, a braid and/or a professional makeup application at Jennie Kay Beauty. You’ll love the people watching from the windows and the bright and feminine decor in the salon.
Or if you’re in the mood for a massage The Bodhi Spa not only offers hydrotherapy, but also body treatments and facials.
Must-stop shopping spots. If you’re looking for classic pieces you’ll wear well after vacation, The New England Harbour Club has got some of the coolest brands represented at their location: Topshop, Wildfox, and Vans can all be found here.
The furniture, planters, ceramics, and gift items at Cottage & Garden are always eclectic and interesting. They have the best succulents around too.
Handcrafted in Rhode Island, the soaps, scrubs, candles, and lotions at the Shore Soap Company come in such pretty packaging you’ll want to stock up on Christmas gifts for family and friends.
Treat your skin with a visit to Farmaesthetics. You might have seen these 100 percent all natural products in luxury spas before, but this brick and mortar shop is where it all got started.
There are so many great festivals and events throughout the year in Newport, there’s no bad time to visit. Whether you want to hang at the beach, step back in time and see a bit of Gilded-Age history or indulge in some of New England’s best seafood the one thing you’re sure to have in Newport is a good time!
