I was not Catholic but I was raised pretty strictly and I was pretty afraid to become pregnant . I married young so it wasn’t an issue . At 30 and divorced it was an issue to me. Although I was pretty innocent, I had an IUD and for my age was learning freedom like a College girl about sex and relationships , dancing , what my worth was , and the mistake hookups I had along the way..They do t feel like love and intimacy does at all. I learned slowly that it was fun but no way what I wanted for me .
Working , 2 kids and single was so very different from my cozy farmhouse life .
On another topic , I was out one night dancing with friends in Amherst ,Mass at a club long gone now and a friendly Bonnie Raitt and the Allman Brothers walked in and took the stage for fun. I’m so glad I had those years to remember now with all the disappointments and mistakes I made and learned from along the way. I feel for this generation so much it hurts . I want them to know that. Thanks Jess!

So true that becoming a mother cemented my pro choice feelings as well. Being connected to something so viscerally in a way that is impossible to explain really underscores that the only person who has the context to decide what to do about any pregnancy is the pregnant person.
