SILK MAXI DRESS c/o (avl in more sizes HERE and HERE) / SILVER KITTEN HEELS / CROWN BRAID TUTORIAL / MAKEUP: NAKED EYE PALLETTE / TOO FACED MASCARA / NARS THE MULTPLE IN ORGASM / TINTED MOISTURIZER IN PEARL

I’ve been rounding up all of your questions from my weekly newsletter (if you’re not subscribed you can sign up here) and the one question I’ve been getting pretty consistently the last few weeks is “What do I wear to summer weddings?”  Understandably so, this can be tricky, particularly when you have multiple weddings on the calendar and in many cases, lots of different dressing requirements, black tie, beach wedding, cocktail attire, it can be difficult to decide what to wear and what it all means! So I decided to team up with my good friend and hair/beauty guru Jennie Kay of Jennie Kay Beauty to create 3 different summer wedding looks and help inspire your wedding guest style. We’re kicking it off with  black tie wedding style.

For me, a midi or maxi length is an appropriate style for black tie. Save the shorter lengths for cocktail or even a beach wedding. Silk fabric is so elegant it’s an ideal choice for a fancier occasion, and the fit of this maxi is loose and flowy so no clinging or sticking to you if you’re in the blistering summer heat. It’s also a great price point at under $200 and available at Rent the Runway if you feel you’ll only wear it once. For color, I love navy as an alternative to black, it’s a bit softer and lends a more summery feel. You can’t go wrong with a kitten heel, my new favorite go-to shoe, these metallic sandals are such a great find and look great dressed up or with boyfriend jeans. I love how the silver compliments the navy.

There’s nothing worse than having a face full of heavy makeup that melts off in the hot summer sun. I went for a natural and light look with tinted moisturizer, a cream based blush, a gold smokey eye using my favorite eye palette and waterproof mascara that seriously makes your lashes look SO long. For lips I just used a clear gloss with SPF. To set I use this mist which is SPF 50, it’s amazing! With this look the hair and the dress are really the focal points so I kept everything else pretty simple. For a beautiful summer day this is elegant, easy and sophisticated. Stay tuned for our next post on what to wear to a beach wedding!
